    What is Organic Cotton?
    Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. "Working with and not against" nature is the principle that brings organic farming. Grown without pesticides and without chemicals, farmers rely on organic fertilizers, crop rotation and integrated pest management. Fields are naturally fertilized, pests that eat insects are used to control attacks naturally planting without causing damage to crops. Weeds are removed with hoes and tractors, as well as manually.

    Why Organic Cotton?
    • The cotton crops are world champions the use of pesticides, causing poisoning and death of thousands of men and women farmers, birds, fish, insects and many other animals, besides polluting the air, soil and water sources.
    • The planting conventional cotton is one of the largest chemical industry dependent. Consuming 10% of your entire world production of pesticides (including herbicides, insecticides, and defoliants). Consumes 25% of the insecticides used in agriculture in only 3% of agricultural land.
    • A third of the weight of a basic T-shirt, and three quarters of the weight of a pair of jeans, is the amount of poison used in the planting of the cotton used for producing these parts.
    • 20,000 people die each year because of accidental poisoning by pesticides used in conventional cotton cultivation. Besides 5,000 suicides by debt by buying from them.
    • For each pound of cotton is sprayed 1,250 kg of pesticides.
    • The fiber is not only used part of the cotton. The seed oil is extracted and commonly found in foods, terminating all this pesticide included in the feed.
    • 10% of chemicals applied on cotton meet their goals, the rest is absorbed by the plant, air, soil, water and human bodies.
    • During processing, the cotton is subjected to washing, chlorine dyeing heavy metals, resins and softeners. The finish is almost as devastating as the planting, causing contamination of the environment on human health.
    • The GM cotton is now 75% of conventional cotton.
    • Manual and organic agriculture uses less fossil fuel energy and consequently lower carbon emissions.

    • If a farmer producing organic cotton, it has a 50% increase in income because 40% cut in the cost of inputs (pesticides and chemical fertilizers).
    • One hectare of cotton crop uses eight times more pesticides than one hectare of crop food.
    • 1 kg of pesticides contaminate 1 million gallons of water.
    • 80% of diseases in the world are the result of scarcity or water pollution.
